How to reach Darjeeling?

Geographically Darjeeling is situated in the Northernmost part of West Bengal, India. It is said to be the crown of WB. Darjeeling is at an elevation of 2045 meters( 6709 ft).

To reach to Darjeeling from anywhere in India other than Sikkim and Nepal (because there are additional routes to directly reach Darjeeling from these two places) you need to arrive at Siliguri which is the gateway to north-east India. Siliguri is the Hub for NE India and the adjoining places like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim, Tarai & Doors. You can reach Siliguri by train, flight, bus etc. By train, you have to arrive at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) or Siliguri Junction. By Flight, land at the Bagdogra International Airport.

Now as you have arrived at Siliguri. You can reach Darjeeling by Bus, Train, Car, Bike, Scooty, Bicycle etc. According to your budget, you can choose your means of transport. Those who have a good budget and want comfortable travel can reserve a vehicle for pickup at a fair price. For those who want a pocket-friendly solution or want to experience travelling like a local then you can travel in a shared taxi which will cost Rs 250 per head till Darjeeling. A bus is also an option, it will cost Rs 105 per head as of Nov 2023 (for Govt. owned NBSTC Buses), from Siliguri Junction/Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus. You can get shared cabs from various locations like NJP, Siliguri Junction(for Bus too), Darjeeling More, Mahananda Bridge, Heritage Hotel etc. Now finally for the adventurers who want to travel on the train or specifically the UNESCO world heritage The Darjeeling Himalayan Railways (DHR)/ Toy Train, you can board the train from NJP.
